‘The In between’ is a collection of 10 small - large paintings made in the last Melbourne lockdown. These works were made through a battle of emotions during the highs and lows that come with isolation. For me they represent a vast exploration in the relationship between shape, colour and composition. With these works I attempted to push my own boundaries choosing colour tones, combinations and compositions that are brighter and in ways unusual. In this I hope to challenge the eye of the viewer to look deeper into the layers of each piece. 

 

While creating these works I did not think of much besides my colour choices and certain symbols I felt inclined to use in their designs. Upon completing the whole series I noticed occurring themes of home and galaxy/ outer space.  I would say these were influenced by my thoughts and concepts I would ponder in the time spent indoors and the amount of hours spent in the digital realm. Being in nature is always a huge source of inspiration for me but it has been interesting seeing these works evolve out of me being deprived of nature, and how that may have affected the choices I made in creating them. 

 

In saying all this I will leave it up to the viewer's discretion in taking meaning and a feeling from these works, because after all that is the beauty in sharing art.
